Our Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact

Hinguar Primary School and Nursery Curriculum

Intent

Hinguar Primary School and Nursery is a fully inclusive school where all children are afforded opportunities to thrive and achieve success, regardless of background, creating a culture of high expectation.  Our curriculum embraces varying viewpoints and beliefs, encourages debate and discussion, is based on the global dimension, reflects cultural diversity as well as Fundamental British Values, giving children a strong basic skill set, equipping them for life-long learning beyond Hinguar.

At Hinguar, we encourage our children to be:

* Physically and Mentally Health Aware

*A reflective, deep and creative thinker

*Confident in their talents, resilient, happy and motivated

*Sensitive, caring and respectful of the environment and community

*A risk taker, ambitious and well prepared for life and work.

Implementation

Through the National Curriculum, our children are challenged, learning from mistakes, and celebrating successes. High standards of behaviour, including learning behaviours are non-negotiable. Our curriculum is designed with pupils’ learning at the centre through themes across the different year groups with key lines of enquiry identified. We recognise that this is broad, balanced and offers pupils opportunities to grow and make progress as individuals, as well as learners, from whatever their starting points. We offer our pupils new and exciting experiences through extra-curricular and enrichment activities that are designed to reflect the above.

We provide a rich ambitious learning environment, both inside and outside the classroom, which is conducive to high quality teaching and learning, building a rich cultural capital for all learners.

We keep pupils safe from the dangers of abuse, sexual exploitation, radicalisation and extremism, empowering them to be self-aware. This is achieved throughout the school as a result of both implicit/explicit opportunities within the curriculum.

Impact

The end point of the pupil journey at Hinguar Primary School and Nursery ensures that children are secondary ready; able to see links and make connections in learning. As a result, pupils will have a positive attitude towards themselves, others and their environment. They will have developed resilience, so that they take risks, accepting that making mistakes is an important part of the learning process.  By the end of their time at Hinguar Primary School and Nursery, pupils will have gained strong basic skills and developed their moral, cultural, emotional, spiritual and social purpose, healthy minds and bodies and be well-rounded individuals.
